Owen has been asking constantly to go skating for the last month or two. Ever since we took him to the Oiler game all he has talked about was going to play hockey… we told him that he needed skates and a helmet first and that we would take him and Brandon to get the gear they needed.
After they got their skates they got to pick their own skate guards. Owen picked the camoflage ones
and Brandon picked the ones with a skull and crossbones. They are such boys!
Look how cute these little feet are!
Now that we have the skates on it is time to put on the helmets with a little help from mom!
The fit was a little snugger at the rink than it was at home so it took a little extra stretching and coaxing to get them on. I of course had taken the multitool out of the skate bag so I had to resort to using a dime, yet another reason why there will always be a need for coins! One more final fit check by Brandon.
Owen had no problems walking on the rubber matting with his skates, once he hit the slippery ice though he needed a little help. After a few laps Owen was starting to get pretty comfortable and was starting to push a little more.
Brandon was not too bad on his feet as well but needed a little support from mom once he was on the ice.
He kept hunkering down and was more determined than ever to glide and hang on to the bar. Look at that focus and intensity!
Grandma even got to hold hands with the boys while they took turns between skating with mom and I and walking around the rink.
After about 45 minutes the boys legs got “tired” and they wanted to head to the playground. Brandon wanted a ride around the rink with me before he took his skates off.
It was so much fun taking the boys for their first skate, everyone had a great time and big smiles on their faces… even the ice did!
